Review:

I have always been a big fan of 686 because of the durability of their outerwear. In the last few years, they have launched an extensive collection of clothing and gear designed for everyday use. Chris and I have already reviewed several items in their Everywhere collection and I was very excited to try the 686 Cruiser Wide Fit Pant.

I like to be comfortable but also look for clothing that can be worn from the outdoors to the office and back again. The Cruiser pant is designed to be baggier in fit and extremely durable and definitely fits the comfort aspect. It’s made from Durable Stretch Cotton Ripstop Fabric which has proved to be ultra-durable. All the seams are sewn with Durable Duracore™ Thread.  I’ve taken slams skateboarding, worn them mountain biking, etc., and after several months of abuse, they still look new. They are easy to wipe down if they get a little dirty and can definitely double as my work and adventure pants.

The pants have a built-in belt which has been a nice feature. It’s easily adjusted to fit your waist. The belt runs through the inside of the waistband and can be tightened easily with one hand.  There is also a D-ring incorporated into the belt loop which comes in handy for clipping keys, etc.

The Cruiser Pant is loaded with pockets which comes in handy if you are out hiking or working on a project. The left thigh pocket has a zipper to keep things secure. I usually keep my wallet in the zipper pocket as I know it will be kept safe, but it’s big enough to fit a phone also. The main pockets have plenty of space, although I found it a little tougher to get my bigger hands in and out at times.

Being a baggier fit, the leg openings can seem pretty large and could be an issue biking. But 686 thought this through and incorporated an adjustable Bungee Cord Hem at the bottom of the legs. These are easily cinched down so your pants don’t get caught up in the cranks of your bike, etc. It gives the pants a bit more of a jogger look, rather than the straight leg, but it was a huge plus when biking. The Cruiser pants also have a gusseted crotch for added mobility, which comes in handy if you squat down and keeps the pants from bunching up. These pants were incredibly comfortable and leave plenty of room for movement. The material is durable yet comfortable and I have no doubt these pants will last.

Overall Impressions

The 686 Cruiser Pant is a baggier fit which I found very comfortable. They offer great freedom of movement, which is great for hiking, biking, skateboarding, etc. The Cruiser pant has held up to a lot of outdoor adventure abuse.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Lots of storage
  • Fits true to size
  • Excellent freedom of movement
  • Ripstop fabric is ultra-durable

Cons:

  • Front pockets are a bit hard to fit a large item or hand into
