Review:
In the last few years, 686 have ventured outside of the outerwear business. They now have an impressive men’s line of pants, shorts, and shirts for everyday use. When I am looking for shorts, I can be a bit specific. I want something that will hold up to outdoor adventures, yet be comfortable for everyday use. I picked up the 686 Everywhere Hybrid Shorts after reading about all the features.

The Everywhere Hybrid Shorts are a lightweight, durable nylon/spandex fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish. I found them to be very comfortable as the shorts have a fair amount of stretch to them. The stretch allows the shorts to move with you, not against you, and prevents them from bunching up. They have a 19-inch outseam so they come up just above the knee. The shorts fit comfortably without being too baggy.
The shorts have ample storage, featuring 10 pockets in all. There is a coin pocket, card pocket, and most importantly for travel, an RFID blocking pocket to protect your credit cards. I did find the front pockets to be a bit shallow and if you have a large phone it may fall out. Unfortunately, there aren’t zippers on these pockets either so I was concerned about using it to store my phone.
There is a pocket on the lower left leg that is fairly large. This pocket has a mesh bag built-in, so you can pack your shorts into the pocket. This would be a great asset when trying to fit things in a small pack for a weekend getaway. An added feature is a tiny little stash pocket on the back of the waistband. I wasn’t sure exactly what would fit in here as it is quite small.
Another unique feature is the Innie + Outie Waist Drawcord (Drawcord Ends Adjust Inside or Outside the Waistband). I prefer the use of a belt to keep my shorts snug, so I felt like the draw cord was in the way. This was an easy fix as you can easily move it to the inside. There are small holes in the waistband that allow a quick and easy adjustment.
Overall Impressions
The 686 Everywhere Hybrid Shorts live up to their name, they are truly shorts you can use or take anywhere. From trails to travel, they have you covered with a DWR finish to keep you dry and ample storage when traveling. The stretch fabric and gusseted crotch are an added bonus for mobility and comfort.
