Review:

686 is known for bomb proof construction and gear to fit every need. The 686 GORE-TEX Linear Under Cuff Mitt is no exception. They have held up really well to abuse from grabs, hand drags and varying conditions. The palm is made from DuraGrain™, essentially a vinyl material but looks like leather and is even more durable. Even after several months of use the palm still looks like new. I have used these mitts from -30 to 30 degrees (fahrenheit) and they kept my hands pretty warm. -30 is pretty brutal no matter what mitt you are wearing, but the Gore-Tex membrane will keep your hands dry and these mitts still managed to trap enough heat to keep my hands warm. They do come with a wrist leash that is easily removed if that’s not your style. They are designed to be an under cuff mitt and I found it easily fit under the cuff of several jackets. Another nice feature is they are touchscreen compatible, which is an added bonus on cold days. These mitts do have finger separation but the liner is soft and warm. The Linear Mitt is available in three colors to match your kit: Black, Charcoal and Solar (cream, black and orange combo) . These mitts also feature Movement Fit and they are pre-curved to alleviate break-in. They are comfortable right away and allow excellent dexterity. My only complaint about the Linear Mitt is the sizing. I have a large hand so I selected the XL. It’s pretty snug in the wrist cuff, making it a bit difficult to put on. However once it’s on, there is plenty of room inside. Overall, these mitts have been great to have especially in the colder weather we get here in the Tetons. Once they are on, they are comfortable, warm and the touchscreen capabilities mean that I can leave them on while riding and checking my phone.
