686 Hunter Face Mask Hood performance and review:
I am always looking for face protection for the mixed bag of weather the Teton’s receive in the winters. I’ve grown to really like the over the helmet hoods for the extra protection they provide. I do not like the feel of a tight face mask covering my nose and mouth. This unfortunately leaves my face exposed to some really harsh conditions at times. The over the helmet hood offers a bit of space and better breathability.
The 686 Hunter Face Mask fits pretty tight over most helmets and can be a bit challenging to put on. Once its on, there is a hood adjustment cord that allow you to close the gap to your liking. A really nice feature of the Hunter Face Mask is the Vader™ Vents, a series of holes allowing moisture from your breath to escape and giving you access to fresh air to breathe and prevent goggle fogging. The Vader™ Vents give the mask a unique look, allow you to pull the mask up over your nose on really cold days while not impeding your ability to breathe easily. The Hunter Fask Mask has 1,000mm waterproofing and a DWR finish. Some hoods I have used get pretty soggy when it is snowing, but the 686 hood always stayed dry.
The Hunter Face Mask can be pretty warm on sunny spring days but I liked the extra protection it provided from the sun and UV rays. With UPF 40+ Protection, you can rest assured the mask will prevent you from getting burned on bluebird days.
