Review:
Chris and I previously reviewed a few other skateboards from Arbor, a cruiser and a longboard. Both those boards were high quality so I was stoked to receive the Arbor Whiskey Shuriken deck to review. Arbor is definitely not the first name that comes to mind when looking for a street deck, as they are well known for their longboards. The Whiskey Project by Arbor is a street shaped deck with guest artists for all the graphics. The Shuriken deck is pro skateboarder Shuriken Shannon’s pro model. Arbor worked with Shannon on the shape and his close friend Connor Getzlaff, a skater and renowned Tattoo Artist, on the graphics.
There are three decks in the Whiskey Shuriken Pro Series, an 8”, 8.25” and 8.5” each featuring different art by Getzlaff and distinct top side stains.
The deck is made from 7 ply hard rock maple wood like most skateboards. But, not all decks are created equal. I weigh about 195lbs and put decks under considerable stress. A lot of decks I’ve ridden start showing stress cracks within a month or two of use. The Whiskey Pro deck does not have a single crack after 3 months of hard use and has retained its pop.
The blue stain on the top is really beautiful and I felt bad covering it with grip tape. The graphics on the bottom are even more stunning. The deck has a medium concave that worked very well to keep my feet in place.
Arbor is also one of the more eco-friendly companies in skateboarding and snowboarding. They construct their decks from sustainable sources and reclaim the by-product for use in other products.
