I bought a board to set up as a cruiser and wanted a softer wheel.  My boy, DMX, turned me on to Bones Rough Riders.  Winters are pretty hard on the streets here so we have a lot of chip sealed roads.  If you’ve ever ridden these on a hard wheel you know it will vibrate the teeth right out of your head.  The Rough Riders have been nothing short of amazing on these roads; smooth and fast.  I’ve been rolling around on them for about a month, they have held up really well and have worn very evenly.

img_3239The Rough Riders feature a hub that is chemically bonded to the interior of the wheel for a secure hold. Bones made the hub’s size smaller to enhance the smoothness of the ride and widened the core to increase roll speed over rough terrain.

A few minor things to note, they are a little on the heavy side but if you’re only cruising this is not much of a concern.  I noticed the weight popping up onto curbs.  Another thing, these will not slide without some serious effort.  The softer urethane makes them grip whatever surface you happen to be on.  You’ll also likely want to use a riser to prevent wheel bite, as these wheels are pretty big (59mm).

In summary, if you’re looking for a cruiser wheel, the Bones Rough Riders are a great option.  They have an old school feel to them but have some nice enhancements for speed and durability.  Rough Riders are great for rough roads, off roads or just running down scooter kids.
