Dakine Fillmore Mitt performance and review:
The Fillmore mitt has solid construction and quality materials to ensure durability and function. They have double stitching around the tips and top of the mitts as well as the palms. The palms are a DWR (durable water repellent) style leather and does come with Nikwax.  After reading Chris’ review of the Fillmore Trigger mitt, I knew there was a small issue with the leather becoming wet.  So I applied the Nikwax and have been very pleased at the added protection it provides to keep your hands warm and dry.  The Fillmore mitt features a nylon polyester DWR shell with a high loft synthetic insulation.  It also features the DK dry waterproofing membrane which keeps your hands dry but also remains breathable.

This was my first pair of Dakine mitts, I’ve been a big fan of Dakine’s gear for some time. I’ve used their gear for mountain biking for several years.  The Fillmore mitts have held up really well and deliver the quality I’ve grown to love out of Dakine.  The Fillmore mitt offers great functionality and warmth for a very reasonable price.  The Fillmore is a mid-weight under mitten, meant to be worn under your cuff of your jacket. It uses velcro closures that are easy to close with your mitts on or off and really allows you to cinch them down tight to keep cold air, etc out. The fleece liner feels great on you hands and provides the extra warmth needed on those frigid days.  We’ve had some really cold days so far at Grand Targhee Resort, the Fillmore mitts have worked well into the single digits. We’ve had a few days below zero that I’ve had to wear a liner in addition. I also really like that the Fillmore mittens are not too bulky, I’ve had no issues adjusting bindings, zippers, etc.

Dakine Fillmore MittPros:

  • Great mid weight mitt for the price
  • Great warmth
  • Stays dry
  • Comfortable – easy to put on and take off
  • Easy to secure: Velcro closures stay closed
  • Fits true to size

Cons:

  • The DWR leather palm does get a bit wet when putting your hands down during the day but using the provided Nikwax definitely helps.
