Dakine Team Baron Gore-Tex® Mitt performance and review:

I’ve been using trigger mitts for a few seasons and decided it was time to try out a traditional mitten again. The Dakine Team Baron Mitt always was appealing to me so I decided to go with it this season. It’s on the higher end of the price range, but you can often find them on sale at online retailers.

I have been pleasantly surprised, this mitten fits nicely under your jacket cuff, or under the cuff of a 2nd layer(hoody or fleece), they are easy to get on and off with their built-in stretch to fit cuff closure, and a small pull tab that helps(a thoughtful design). There is room for using a glove liner and once you’ve got these mittens on they stay in place and feel nice and snug with or without liners. Leather back panels wrap down the glove far enough so that your hands stay dry in wet snowy conditions and the full leather palm has held up nicely. I have found the leather palm does gives you extra hold on grabs when you’re in the park. The stretch material is only on the palm side of the mitten so the back part of the wrist and the lining are wool, it’s not as soft as some other mittens I’ve used but the wicking properties of the wool keep your hands warm, dry and if you’re wearing liners you won’t even notice it at all.

I’ve used this mitten in temperatures from 5 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and it’s great for colder conditions, once you get up into the mid 30 dakine team baron mittdegrees Fahrenheit you may want to use a different mitten/glove if your hands tend to run warm. On warm spring days you may want to try a different option too as these will be HOT!

Overall I’m a big fan of the Dakine Team Baron Gore-Tex® Mitt, they have kept my hands warm and dry, have held up with no signs of wear and tear after a few months of beating them up in the backcountry and in the park, they look great and have extra room for liners if needed. If you’re looking for a warm mitten this season the Dakine Team Baron Gore-Tex® Mitt is a great choice.
