Review
Inspired by the Utah skateboard scene of the early 80’s, Geoff and Dave Geertsen began to design and make clothing that would hold up to their aggressive skate style. Geoff sold the first pair of pants to a shop called Holiday Skates, in Sandy Utah. Today Geertsen still produces high quality skate gear in Utah. Each pair of shorts and pants are made to order, cut and sewn by hand and are not mass produced.
I skate a fair amount in Utah and have seen quite a few skaters wearing Geertsen gear. I’ve met the Geertsen brothers at a few skate sessions as well. I decided to order a pair of the Geertsen Skate Shorts to see what the hype was all about. Geoff hand delivered them to me at Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert in Salt Lake City.
The skate shorts fit really well and are loose in the areas you want a skate short to be loose in. In the areas they need to be a bit tighter in order to fit well, they still have a perfect amount of stretch so you still are able to move. They have an 11 inch inseam so they provide ample coverage to your leg, which is a bonus if you take a decent slam.
These shorts are tough and really well made from 100% cotton material. The stitching is thick and will hold up to the abuse you dish out while skating. They have four pockets like you’d expect in a quality pair of shorts but the pockets are deep! Lastly they are really lightweight, 8 ounces, and you might forget you are even wearing shorts.
Overall Impressions
The Geertsen Skate Shorts are made by skaters for skaters. Each pair is made to order, not mass produced. They are made from high quality material to withstand the abuse from skateboarding. They are lightweight and extremely comfortable, what more could you want from a skate short? I know I’ll be picking up more soon.
Pros:
- lightweight
- Comfortable
