Review:

We met with Küat at the outdoor show in 2019 and were very impressed with their product offerings and company culture so we were stoked to get our hands on a Grip 4 to test over the later part of the season. The Küat Grip roof rack system arrived with all the specified parts (flip mounts, racks, tools and bolts) and after reviewing the simplified user-guide it was fairly straight forward to install the Grip roof rack to any universal crossbar.

I found that round or teardrop shaped crossbars are optimal for this roof rack, I did not have the opportunity to try square crossbars. There is also a direct mount option (sold separately) as well if you want a more streamlined connection to your crossbars without using the flip mounts.

Assembly of the Grip rack was simple and you can really tell that the Küat engineers designed these racks to be durable for a lifetime of use. Installation of the rack onto the crossbars was easy after I found the correct way to loop the straps fo the flip mount back into the strap lever, the rack was easy to adjust and tighten for a snug fit on my teardrop shaped Yakima crossbars. Once you’ve secured and tightened the racks to the crossbars the final touch is to use the provided key to securely lock the tabs in place.

The best part about the Grip rack system is the sliding tray. Once you’ve opened the racks you can simply slide out the tray and place your snowboards on the tray (leave about .5″ of space to the edge tray) push the tray in and close and lock the racks. The GripLock Rubber is thick and locks your snowboard in place I really felt it wouldn’t budge even in the harshest windy environments I encountered (up to 60mph) they didn’t move.

These racks sit up a bit high on your vehicle, if you use the flip mount system, so be prepared for that as you’ll get a bit more wind noise. I am very happy with the ease of use and performance of the Küat Grip 4 roof rack and am looking forward to using the system for many seasons to come.

Overall Impressions:

I am pleased with the overall performance of the Küat Grip 4 roof rack, including the ease of installation. I’m very impressed with the bomb proof components of the Grip 4, and to date, it is the most convenient and easy to use roof rack I’ve ever tried. I would recommend the Grip to anyone looking for a universal roof rack that is easy to install on almost any vehicle that has a crossbar system.
