Review:
Over the last few years Never Summer has refined their Proto line, consisting of the Proto Ultra Triple Camber(TC), Proto FR, Proto Slinger, and Proto Synthesis. Adding in new technology to enhance the performance and fun. Each board in the line offers distinct characteristics for the ride you want, and each board can tackle whatever you’re into from all mountain freestyle to park laps.
I’m a huge fan of the Proto Line. The Proto Ultra Triple Camber is an updated version utilizing Never Summer’s Triple camber technology, incorporating their patented Rocker Camber Profile with a third camber section between your feet. It’s a unique blend that provides power, responsiveness, forgiveness, and a balance you won’t find anywhere else. If you like the feeling of Never Summer’s RC, Shockwave, or Ripsaw profiles this one is truly fun and a must try.
The Proto Ultra Triple Camber is arguably slightly softer than its predecessor, has the same damp rating of 6, and is still the stiffest and widest in the Proto line. With that said, and after riding the first Proto Ultra offering, I still feel this board doesn’t feel that stiff for all mountain or park riding, in my opinion, it’s just about perfect.
From all mountain to park riding, it feels well balanced, which you’d expect from a true twin. The Proto Ultra TC has durable topsheet with tasteful abstract artwork, I’m a fan of the black and white top sheet this season. This is in line with Never Summer’s aesthetic, what you’d expect from Never Summer’s Proto family.

The CC Carbon Configuration Technology with the additional carbon X in the middle section of the board with harmonic dampeners really makes a difference in balancing out the flex patterns while increasing stability at high speeds. To that end, as I’ve mentioned, it’s a stiffer board that doesn’t feel that stiff. It will however stand up to those riders that prefer a stiffer flex when riding. I really appreciate the feeling you get from this board you can feel the best characteristics from the WooBoo (wood and bamboo)core and this years update with the Triple Camber profile come through.

Riding park from slushy conditions to early season park conditions on this board has been just as impressive as it’s predecessor. I felt confident and secure that I could pop, spin, slide and land most tricks right away. It’s a true confidence builder if you want to step up to larger jumps and bigger spins. The increased waist width felt good on locking into rails and presses and board slides were fun on this board. I appreciate the unique shape in the design, the tip and tail are somewhat blunted to me which reminds me of some 90’s style boards, just my thoughts, it’s a fun shape regardless for a twin.
Carving on the Proto Ultra TC is well rounded, just like it’s predecessor. I’ve found some boards aggressively pushed through the arc of the turn, I felt this board is easy to initiate turns and hold the arc of the turn where you want to. It made eurocarving really fun on the toe and heel, a very well balanced carving machine. With the addition of the Triple Camber profile, I do think this is a nice upgrade, you do feel a difference in edge hold and I’m able to still have the ease of the rocker when I want. Overall I love carving on this board and just laying it out toe or heelside it’s oodles of fun!
The Proto Ultra Triple Camber is still geared toward the advanced freestyle rider, and continues the tradition of being a well rounded board that will really make the entire mountain your playground from park to powder. It’s a higher board and the price reflects that, however it’s a quality product built in Denver, CO. The Proto Ultra TC continues to be one of my favorite snowboards that I’ve ridden in several years, and is worth looking into for those freestyle riders looking for a confidence inspiring true twin.
Overall Impressions:
The updated Proto Ultra Triple Camber is powerful yet forgiving when you need it to be, perfect your freestyle prowess. If you’re a park rider who demands the best, or a powerful rider who wants a freestyle board to ride everywhere this is the ticket, it will serve you well all season long wherever you ride. The addition of Never Summer’s Triple Camber technology is an upgrade from the shockwave camber in the past years model, and provides even more responsiveness and performance to this board. In my opinion, it’s the one board you can use anywhere from backcountry to park. It’s just fun to ride, who doesn’t want to have more fun?
