Review:

Like Chris, my first experience with Nitro was in the ’90s. I owned a Nitro Pyro for several years. That board ripped! We had the opportunity to demo a few Nitro boards at Outdoor Retailer in 2019 and were really impressed with the line. When we were given the opportunity to review a few boards, we were stoked! The Fusion is part of the quiver series from Bryan Fox and Austin Smith. With a classic all-mountain directional shape, the Fusion has become the go-to board for Nitro’s team riders for versatility on the mountain.

The Fusion was inspired by one of Nitro’s early 90s boards and carries the original shape but has been heavily upgraded.

I was fortunate enough to get the Fusion out in a wide variety of conditions. On groomers, the Fusion is really responsive edge to edge. The Reflex Core is thinner between the feet, increasing torsional flex and makes turn initiation effortless. The Fusion also has a larger radius sidecut that slowly gets thinner towards the tail. This makes acceleration out of turns easy and keeps the nose area catch-free. The Fusion uses Nitro’s Sintered Speed Formula II Base. All this combined, the Fusion is very stable, predictable and amazing at high speeds.

We had an epic storm cycle come through the Tetons in early January, producing 107” in 10 days! The Fusion handled the deepest snow I could find anywhere on the mountain with ease. The big nose, tapered profile and the setback stance provided great float on some really deep days.

The Fusion is no slouch in the park either. The Cam Out profile, camber between the feet, really gives it good pop and smooth response when hitting jumps and rails.

Nitro rates it as a 7 out of 10 on their flex scale but I found it to be pretty playful when doing butters and presses.

Overall Impressions:

The Fusion is definitely one of my favorites this season. It has crushed everything I have thrown at it. Fast, super responsive, just a really fun all-mountain board. Be careful adding a Fusion to your quiver, you might not ride anything else!
