I never used a helmet snowboarding growing up or even as I became older. I started wearing one when I made my kids wear one. I now actually find them to be very comfortable, keep my ears warm and have been thankful twice that I had one on. A few years back I was rollin at Winter Park Resort with some friends. A skier hit me from behind and caused me to spin around, catching my back edge. I slammed so hard I cracked my helmet in half…scary! I’ll never ride without one again just for that reason.
My current helmet is a Pro-Tec Riot Snow. It’s super lightweight, and could be even lighter if you removed the liner and earpieces. All the goggles I’ve used fit well with the helmet. I also really like the styling of this helmet, it has a short brim to break up the egg shell look. It has a Dialed Suspension fit system that allows you to adjust the fit by turning a knob located at the back of the helmet.
Add ons: I wanted an audio system for my helmet. Pro-Tec makes a kit for most of their helmets and are decently priced. Save your money, the system is cheap and does not work very well.
