Red Rum Skates was founded in 2007 by Jerm Hanley. It took a few years for everything to fall into place as Jerm and his wife sought out to find quality blanks that would be the canvas for Red Rum Skates unique artwork.  They found their answer in made-in-the-USA decks, crafted in southern California; they also source decks from Maxximus Skateboards and Swamp Trogs.  Red Rum hand paints each deck using a plethora of materials, including rattlecan paint, ink, acrylics, paint pens, and Sharpies; textures for backgrounds incorporate various airbrush techniques.  Each and every deck is a piece of art to be used for shredding or displaying.

Red rum skatesDave’s Review:

I haven’t ridden a popsicle deck in a long time;  I prefer a large-shaped deck.  But I have really enjoyed this deck, and have come to prefer it for street sessions with my son. The deck is light, and has a smooth, even concave allowing for great pop and control. But what really sets Red Rum apart is the art work. When these arrived I was blown away by the concept Jerm came up with for us. Custom fades, super cool texture, and the icing on the cake…he put our logo on it.  I contacted Jerm and told him I was afraid to skate it.  His response: “Gotta skate it, you know I can paint more!”

So skate it I did. It’s held up really well.  The decks Red Rum chose as their creative canvas are highquality and can take a  good beating.

Red Rum Skates, with an Old Guys Rip Too Sticker added!

There’s something about custom or original art on a deck that just draws you in, and Red Rum Skates delivers. Combine that with a quality North American maple deck, and you’re going enjoy your ride even more. Each Red Rum deck is hand painted, and you can tell immediately, by the way it looks and feels, that there’s a great deal of depth indicating it’s a quality product. I usually prefer to not ride popsicle-shaped decks, but the 8.5 X 32 custom artwork that Red Rum dreamed up for us has me choosing this deck over my shaped decks, and it rides just as good as it looks. I almost didn’t want to take this deck out to the park because the artwork looks sick, but the real test is how it holds up. This deck has held up superbly; after riding bowls and street sections the artwork is still looking great — it’s showing normal wear. It seems like a luxury to have custom artwork, but hey, it’s individuality that stands out these days. If you’re looking to hang it, or to skate it, Red Rum’s custom artwork on your skate is going to bring a smile to your face.
