Review:
The slam-cap noshock helmet is a feather light helmet with a standard/race style look with great ventilation for all conditions. I’ve used this helmet mainly for my backcountry and some resort riding days during the 2019 season. I’ve found this helmet to be comfortable and the Perfect FIT adjustments are easy to use and dial in a secure, yet not uncomfortable, fit and feel on your head. I have a smaller head profile, and I wear a beanie/balaclava most days on the hill and the medium slam-cap noshock was a good fit. Helmets always look a bit big on me, so this was no different, be prepared for that if you have a smaller head shape and are looking into this helmet.
I was able to ride with the earpads in for maximum warmth on cold days, and it works when you need that extra bit of warmth. For warmer days, simply unclip the earpads and remove the velcro from the Perfect FIT dial and you’re all set. I really like the customization options of being able to remove the earpads and internal padding on this helmet. Weighing in at a little over 425g (size medium) this helmet is truly one of the lightest helmets I’ve ridden in, and if you’re looking for feather-light characteristics, this is a good choice. Even though I didn’t hit my head with this helmet(who wants to really do that anyway!), it’s nice to know the SHRED RES (Rotational Energy management System) would protect me by allowing movement between my head and the helmet in many different directions when an impact occurs, displacing the energy to help protect your brain.
I also paired the slam-cap with my SHRED Simplify goggles and they compliment each other very well. The slam-cap noshock will be slightly redesigned for 19/20 so look to this helmet for your backcountry and resort riding needs, it’s lightweight and low-key and will come in a variety of colors!
