Review:
Over the past several years my eye sight has changed and I needed prescription glasses/sunglasses for my near sighted eye sight. I’ve tried several different prescription sunglasses and lens from different manufacturers and Smith is at the top of the list of manufacturers I wanted to try. Smith has been delivering quality products since 1965, and for every outdoor enthusiasts out there we’ve always respected the companies dedication to producing high quality optics for any outdoor endeavor. From great optical clarity or the best protective gear out there, Smith Optics has a great product.
Smith offers a wide variety of frame options for prescription sunglasses. I needed a lightweight frame with a medium fit and I was able to find just that with the Pinpoint RX. The Pinpoint RX can be configurable for Polarized or non polarized options, and since I’ll be using these for fishing and other sports where I want Polarization I chose that option, and I’m happy I did!
Lens
The prescription ChromaPop Polarized Green Mirror lens was fantastic for enhancing the Green spectrum over the summer, you really can tell a big difference while wearing these sunglasses. The ChromaPop lens just makes the colors vibrant, and the optics for my prescription were exact so clarity in any condition (from cloudy to sunny days )has been superb while wearing these sunglasses.
The Pinpoint RX has become my go to pair for any outdoor activity this spring and summer. From spring snowboarding, fishing, golfing, mountain biking, or running around town. These sunglasses will transition seamlessly to whatever you’re plans are outside.
Let’s talk about the weight of these sunglasses compared to others I’ve tried. The Pinpoint RX are by far the lightest frame I own, after hours of wearing them I have not had any pressure points which I’ve experienced from wearing other sunglasses for that amount of time. You’ll hardly know you’re wearing them.
Mountain biking through foothill trails in Golden, CO I put these sunglasses to the test through some flow sections with rocky terrain, drops and rock gardens. Never ever did I feel like the Pinpoint was going to come off, they stayed on and in place during every ride. Snowboarding in the spring slush, produced the same results(the Pinpoint RX stayed put and helped my vision while riding), and fly fishing with the Pinpoint RX Polarization ChromaPop lens is perfect for those sunny to partly cloudy days. You can see everything clearly through the water, these are truly the do it all frame and lens combo I was looking for!
After months of heavy use from Spring into Summer, these sunglasses have held up, even being dropped several times. I don’t have any scratches on the lens yet, which is a true testament to their durability Smith Optics has done a great job with refining these RX sunglasses into a lightweight durable product that will take you from your outdoor activities and around town in style.
Overall Impressions:
Smith Pinpoint RX sunglasses are a great option for anyone with a medium fit face profile. The price point is in line with what you’ll spend on a pair of prescription sunglasses with most brands. The optical clarity for a prescription pair of sunglasses is what you’d expect from a brand like Smith Optics (superb). The ChromaPop lens technology, which makes colors more vibrant, really makes you want to wear these all day long.
The lightweight frame is perfect for all day use and hasn’t given me any pressure points at all during high impact long term usage. These are a stylish pair of RX sunglasses, and I highly recommend them to anyone, check out Smith Optics for your prescription sunglasses.
