Review:
My kids and I set out to hit Grand Targhee on a Saturday in November. My kids were moving slow in this morning so I loaded the car up. We were about half way there when I realized I forgot my jacket. We were to far to turn around and go back to the house so I decided to stop at Habitat in Driggs, ID. They had a great selection of jackets and other outerwear but they were all more than I wanted to spend since I already had a jacket. I needed to find something to keep me from freezing for the day. I found a rack of Volcom gear and really liked the look of the Dayton. It was much cheaper than a jacket and I’d be able to use it for more than just snowboarding. I was pleasantly surprised at how warm it was with the lining, it was about 20 degrees the first day I used it, and I was never cold. The only downside, it was not waterproof so it was a bit soggy by the end of the day. I washed it with Nikwax Cotton Proof™ and its perfect now. There are several color options to fit your taste: Cherry Wood, Black and Navy (this review is based on Cherry Wood). I choose an XXL so I’d be able to layer if needed and I also like my clothing a little loose. I would not recommend using this on a pow day as you will not have a powder skirt. But this makes a great alternative to a bulky jacket. Plus you’ll have that lumberjack style and we all know chicks dig lumberjacks.
Pros
- Great look
- Superior construction
- Liner makes it surprisingly warm
- Cleans easily
Cons
- Only has chest pockets
- Not waterproof
- A little on the expensive side
