Special Features on the V-Twin:

Triple Camber Profile: The center rocker of Never Summer patented Rocker Camber profile is now a third camber area flanked by two small rockers. Read more about Triple Camber.

Powersurf Wood Core: A high percentage of lightweight Paulownia is combined with Poplar and Birch running down the middle of the core and Poplar along the sidecut edge. Adding strength and the optimum amount of torsional rigidity. THE POWERSURF WOOD CORE strategically combines these woods in crucial areas of the core for a durable yet lightweight feel.

V-Twin Carbon Configuration: Full recluse carbon web tech – Carbon Fiber is bound in 20 degree angles to add torsional stability to the board, along with longitudinal rebound, enhancing edge hold pressure. The recluse carbon web technology holds the integrity of the board’s flex pattern over a longer period of time and creates powerful snap in and out of the turn.

Review:

Never Summer has created a unique twin all mountain slayer of a snowboard with the new V-Twin, short for Valhalla Twin, that is not only unique in shape but also packed with great technology to allow you to enjoy whatever terrain you decide to rip up at your local mountain. Never Summer had a similar shaped board with the Bone and Warlock. The V-Twin may look somewhat similar, however it is much different in how it rides.

I had my first viewing of the new V-Twin in early January and was immediately drawn to the bat tip and tail, that we’ve seen on the tail of the Valhalla (Read Dave’s review!) recently. The raised aluminum fenders on the tip and tail, really stand out and, in my opinion, make this board very unique from most other boards out there. The co-extruded polymer topsheet is tastefully designed with a Viking longship between the bindings and the Valhalla insignia and V-Twin call out toward the tip and tail, and it’s very durable.

You’ll get Never Summer’s reliable triple camber profile working along side their power grip sidecut to keep you confident you’ll have great pop when you ollie, on take offs of jumps, and you’ll be locked in edge to edge when needed on landings and you’ll be able to carve up any terrain and leave trenches. I’m a big fan of the full recluse carbon web layup from the Proto Synthesis, and am very impressed with how it works in this board too.

The v-twin has a flex of 6 and a damp rating of 5, so you’re getting a mid flex board and a mid damp ride (may have some chatter if you go really fast, like 60 mph). I found the flex to be superb for freestyle and carving, and I got the v-twin over 50 mph and had only a little bit of chatter in the tip and tail, hardly noticeable at all. This board is a confidence builder, like most Never Summer boards, you feel in control and it’s very responsive underfoot. From quick edge to edge turns and laid out carves it handles like a dream. Just what you want for your Viking expedition in the mountains!

Let’s talk about the base material of the v-twin. The durasurf XT sintered 5501 base is a proprietary p-tex base that is super fast and ultra strong used by Never Summer. After having several Never Summer boards with this base, I can confirm it’s durable and when it’s waxed often and taken care of it’s one of the best out there. The v-twin base showcases a blue and black marbling with hints of the carbon webbing showing through, which is pretty unique to the brand as well. I’ve only seen this on a few other limited releases, the Valhalla, and I hope they start using this more often in the line. I’m always a fan of the eagle dye cut on their boards too, so to me this base stands out and it’s constructed with top of the line materials that will go fast and hold up over the years.

Overal Impressions:

Ready to unleash your inner Viking? The V-Twin has a unique shape, and it will stand out amongst other boards on the mountain for many reasons. All of them good, in my opinion. This board rides all-mountain condition with ease and with a mid flex it’s approachable to almost any rider out there. If you are a fan of triple camber (which I am) then you’ll love the way this board rides it’s playful, powerful, and another fun addition to the Never Summer family.

    1. Thanks,Jim! Really appreciate that you liked the review. What type of riding style do you prefer? For your heigh and weight I would say the 159X for more of a freestyle/all mountain feel or the 162X for a more all mountain/freeride feel.
